Although we, like everyone else, have been spending all of our time quarantined inside our homes, we have been doing everything in our ability to make our time together special. In doing so, and in an effort to simply break up the monotony of our usual routine, we decided to cook a meal special that is a family favorite and set an accompanying table setting.
While a beautiful tablescape is a conversation starter in itself, as is true with anything else, it’s that much better if there is a story or meaning behind it.
This particular setting features Moda Domus Carnation pieces from my mother’s collection. The Moda Domus Carnation pieces are what my mother initially wanted to register for as her daily china for her wedding registry but reluctantly chose something else upon my grandmother’s suggestion worrying it might chip. Years later I came across a full vintage set at an estate sale and she immediately purchased it on the spot.
While it’s not likely that you can acquire the original Italian Carnation set in full being sold through retailers we were ecstatic to find that Moda Operandi has reintroduced the collection on their website along with other beautiful pieces to accompany the serveware.
We would be remiss not to share the fabulous Italian “comfort meal” if you will, that we prepared to share over the beautiful setting. This particular recipe is one that my family has been enjoying for years. While it’s a classic meatball recipe in terms of ingredients, the key is all in the fresh herbs. We also always include an aged olive oil and a hint of fresh cracked pepper for dipping bread. This meal makes for a classic crowd pleaser, and there’s no better way to pass the time than cooking up a delicious meal to be shared with family..and a lovely set of china doesn’t hurt either.
