We are and always will be all about the classics at Christian Ladd Interiors. There is something so special about being able to incorporate antiques into a design especially when juxtaposed with new, fresh pieces. One of our personal favorite pieces is an antique Hepplewhite sideboard that was passed down several generations. It has traveled with us from home to home over the years and brings memories and life to each space it has been a part of.
When styling a sideboard, like any statement piece, there are always a few items we always incorporate. Some of these items include coffee table books, picture frames, trays, heirloom pieces, candles and of course, lighting.
In order to create dimension, we always add layers by stacking in coffee table books and picture frames next to taller items such as a table lamp. When being used in a dining room, we incorporate our favorite china or silver sets. By doing so it not only makes for a wonderful display but allows for functionality when entertaining.
Our favorite items to style a sideboard with are the accessories. The accessories, as with any other space in the home, are where you can get creative. We love to mix and match our silver pieces and tend to swap out our serving pieces with colorful Herend figurines or books to create an unexpected look. Another fun way to incorporate color is by adding in collectible boxes. We have a malachite box, as shown in the image above, and we also like to style in Louis Sherry boxes. Louis Sherry has a multitude of colorful box designs that are darling to set out with little mints when the chocolates inside are no more.
By mixing traditional pieces like silver with items such as colorful coffee table books, not only does it tailor a space to your personality but also creates a less formal atmosphere and instantly becomes more inviting. See a handful of our favorite items to style a sideboard with below.
